SP6 is located on the medial aspect of the lower leg, 4 finger-widths (about 3 cun) above the tip of the medial malleolus, posterior to the tibia.

Clinical Indications for Moxibustion

  • Gynecological conditions: Dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, fertility support
  • Digestive disorders: Abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea
  • Urinary issues: Frequent urination, enuresis
  • Lower limb pain: Calf cramping, weakness

Evidence Summary

A 2020 RCT found SP6 moxibustion significantly reduced VAS pain scores in primary dysmenorrhea (mean reduction 4.2 points vs 1.8 points in controls). Another study reported improved menstrual regularity in 78% of participants after 3 months of twice-weekly SP6 moxibustion.
